Fruity Wine Slushies and Rocking Chairs Have us Feeling Tipsy

May 13, 2017

When we visit Sweet Acre Farm Winery in Alto our routine is to have a friendly chat with owner Matt and his wife Lindsey while sipping their delicious fruit wines at the tasting bar. This is a tradition that we've repeated many times, especially when a new wine is debuting or they are having a special event with live music.

But since we're playing Game of Cones, we are trying the frozen wine slushie today. On a hot, early summer day, it's a delightful diversion to the usual frosty treat we find on our travels. Made from a variety of their fresh fruit wines, the slushies come in a host of fruity flavors including blackberry, strawberry, watermelon, peach, blueberry, lemon and fruit punch. The winery serves two different flavors per day - so, it's a flavor bingo depending on the day you go.

Today, we're tasting the blackberry and lemon layered slushie made with their award winning Quittin' Time lemon and Sweet Ass Blackberry wines.

The 12 oz slushie ($6 each or $10 in a souvenir glass) hits our lips with a sweet and tart jolt of frozen farm freshness. Beyond yum, this snow cone in a glass for adults is refreshing and also giggle inducing with its average 11% alcohol content. The blend of blackberry and lemon provides a delightful mix of tartness that lingers in the most perfect way.

We enjoyed our slushies on the back porch with a view of the farm fields filled with berries ready to harvest for he next batch of wine. Our rocking chairs made for the perfect perch as we contemplated how to solve all the world's problems - we tipped our chairs and our glasses to a Game of Cones stop well worth the drive to the environs of The North!
